i use to hate star trek until i sow this and after watching this its now on my top 10 favourite movies of all time and the best sci fi film by far AND IT GT A RATING OF 94% on rotten tomatoes

Just watched this again. It's one of my favorite films of 09' now. It's a true sci-fi epic; It manages to thrill while maintaining a powerful and metaphoric plot. It's just incredible stuff.

there's another theme this new version of Star Trek plays on; namely how, fucked over regarding a solid education and skills training, people born between 1980 and 1992, are woefully unprepared for the challenges of the working world, as unprepared as Cadet Kirk was to be captain. I mean, the Enterprise crew of the standard universe got live a "normal life" this alternate universe crew? they kinda have to make it up as they go.

I think its pretty much established in the Star Trek cannon, that the standard universe Captain Kirk is a good brawler. In that one movie where Kirk and Piccard finally meet, Piccard gets worked by that Soran guy, but when Kirk fights him he kicks his ass.

the only reason Nero kicked Kirk's ass was because he was fighting CADET Kirk. Had he been fighting CAPTAIN Kirk, that fight would have gone differently.

what threatened the world back in the 60's was the cold war, what threatens it now, are runaway PMC's and terrorism, I hope Abram's vision of "Star Trek" plays on those themes.
